"That’s not the only drama in the Georgia House. In essence, House Speaker David Ralston is in a two-front battle.
An invitation made the rounds Wednesday for a virtual fundraiser hosted by House Speaker David Ralston for Republican Marcy Westmoreland Sakrison, daughter of former congressman Lynn Westmoreland.
The reason it raised eyebrows: She’s running against state Rep. Philip Singleton, an Army veteran and vocal Ralston critic who beat Sakrison in a 2019 special election for the Newnan-based seat.
It’s rare to see House leadership oppose one of their own, though not surprising: Singleton called for Ralston to step down over his delaying of court cases in his legal practice.
Another side note: Sakrison’s general consultant is veteran GOP operative Jay Walker, who is also a top strategist for the House GOP caucus led by Ralston."

Singleton has also nabbed the endorsement of WSB pundit Erick Erickson, who on Monday wrote on Facebook that he was backing the “strong conservative who will vote for limited government” - and for Ralston’s ouster. Wrote Erickson:
“Speaker Ralston is pouring money into the seat to make sure Singleton does not win because Singleton has said he would push for the Speaker’s resignation. Singleton is a strong conservative who will vote for limited government. Support him and we can have a runoff between two Republicans, one of whom backs the Speaker and one who wants to do the right thing.”

— Republican Philip Singleton, a candidate in the Sept. 3 special election to represent state House District 71, has gained the support of the anti-abortion group Georgia Right to Life. To help you keep track of which anti-abortion group is which, GRTL is the one that withdrew endorsements for legislators who supported HB 481. It opposed exceptions included in the law that would allow abortions in cases of rape or incest, provided the woman had filed a police report. The District 71 seat opened up when state Rep. David Stover, R-Newnan, resigned earlier this summer.
